Ava security cameras win Red Dot in "Product Design" category

The Ava security camera line, comprising a Compact Dome, a Dome, and a 360 fisheye, reflects the company’s mission to deliver better, simpler, more innovative security. The cameras’ refined design language stood out from established norms in the video surveillance market, with a blend of precise shapes and softened surfaces. Built using robust, high-quality materials, the cameras are vandal-resistant yet discreet to blend into all environments, as they come in two colors: white and black. The split line is a common element, and it is used to enhance the cameras’ curved profile and make space for the logo.

Ava Security collaborated with Scandinavian consultancy Eggs Design to develop and engineer the sleek, high-quality product identity and new look of cameras and hardware.

The modular build-up and well-designed cable management make for a swift installation. Accompanied with Ava’s powerful software and servers, the video security solution is easy to install, easy to use, and manage. The Ava plug-and-play configuration removes the need for usernames and passwords, pre-configuration set-up, or default settings. Users scan the unique QR codes on the Ava Cameras to onboard them to the Aware Cloud video management system.

Ava Cloud Video Security wins Red Dot in “Smart Products” category

The Ava Cloud Video Security solution leverages machine learning to provide insights rather than just record video security footage. It helps customers protect business and people proactively, investigate events faster, and access untapped operational insights. The Red Dot award recognizes the role that design has played in the innovation of the Ava Cameras and how these products differentiate themselves  through:

  • ease of installation and management with QR code scanning and snap-on mounting
  • Ava Cameras identify specific sound patterns, like screaming, gunshots, breaking glass, or loud noises, to determine the type of sound and their direction
  • proactive alerts and real-time anomaly detection from all the security cameras in the system
  • fast and accurate searching by event, appearance & similarity across all the cameras’ footage
  • smart maps of premises with people and vehicle tracking and counting
  • operational insights for business operations, building management, and retail analytics
  • secure access via web and mobile apps

Red Dot CEO Professor Dr. Peter Zec on the laureates

The winners of the Red Dot Award: Product Design 2021 were particularly impressive this year. The design of their products is excellent in terms of both the aesthetic and the functionality. It’s not easy to prevail in such a strong field of competitors and win over our jury. Consequently, I want to congratulate the laureates very sincerely on their success

Professor Dr. Peter Zec, founder, and CEO of Red Dot

Evaluation platform for good design

The Red Dot Award: Product Design dates back to 1955 and recognizes the best products for a given year. The roughly 50 jurors were once again true to the motto “In search of good design and innovation” in the 2021 competition. The international panel of experts comprises specialists from a wide variety of sectors. They scrutinized the products entered in the competition in a process that spanned several days and were guided by assessment criteria such as the product’s formal quality, ergonomics, and longevity.

Ava Cameras and Ava Cloud Video Security in exhibitions, online, and in the yearbook

Visitors can see Ava Cameras in the online exhibition on the Red Dot website from 21 June 2021. That date also marks the beginning of the Red Dot Design Week, during which this year’s award winners and Ava Security will be celebrated online.

From 22 June 2021, Ava Cameras will also be included in the exhibition “Design on Stage” in the Red Dot Design Museum Essen, where all of the award-winning products are showcased. Visitors to the museum can experience the quality of the designs in a space that features contemporary design solutions and historical industrial architecture. The Red Dot Design Yearbook 2021/2022 comes out in August. The publication provides a comprehensive overview of the state of the art and trends in product design.
